We've found from the phoneline and other contact so far that the number one thing people would like from us is the chance to meet other people.
So, how would you like to meet them? We have the women's group going for those women over 25, the Youth group for those under 25, and the mens coffee group is due to get back up and running again soon.
What else would you like? We can put a range of different events on, but for most we need an idea of numbers beforehand - and we don't necessarily know what will draw the most people of out the woodwork so-to-speak.

well i have been to a few of these up north wen i was in whg and so an idea we had up there was weekends staying at a members place having a few drinks and good food and enjoying others company and having fun gettign to kno wot we are all like.
also making it well known to every one who is gay on nzdating and also at gay.co.nz as there are alot of ppl out there hu are scared that there arent others out there that are gay and will help them out wen they need a frend to talk to.

I have to agree with "buffboi28". The group seems to be focused on the "young ones", or the already established "groups of friends". There dosent seem to be any introduction for the older individuals to establish social contact between them. Unfortunately, the site always seems to be out of date also. I am sure new individuals will find it hard to just "turn up" to an event not knowing what/who to expect there. A more non-threatening, safe get together would help - where the core members dont stick to themselves, and to allow individuals to feel welcomed/valued members of the group. Invercargill is very small, but to be able to put a face to all the anonyimous profiles out in cyberland would help bring the community together.

First of all, as a new member I'd like to say hi to everyone at SGNLS! I lived in Invercargill for 2 years and having spent the last 12months up north I've just moved back again! I'd really like to see more get togethers for both gays and lesbians happening here. Which leads me to a suggestion, how would people feel about a casual get together at one of the local restaurants one afternoon? Its a new year and I for one would like the chance to meet up with some other family members. Just a one off for the chance to meet and then organise another meeting from there???

Hey all. I'm relatively new to Invercargill and coming from Dunners, I'm disappointed at the apparent lack of social events down here... Im keen to meet up for a drink one evening with anyone who is keen.

Hi there, I know all the messages on this are from 2011 but hopefully you'll let me know what's going on down here in Invercargill for lesbians. I'd love to go along to the over 25s womens group if its still going, and to any social get togethers organised amongst you. I'm new here from the North Island so I hardly know anyone at all here, let alone any lesbians. Cheers.
